Her eyes sparkled like a million summer afternoons
Her laughter bubbled like a mountain spring
Her words tumbled over one another like a litter of puppies
So eager to find out what the world had in store.
I saw her like this…I knew her this way.
I understood the beauty, and the hope, and the life she found in every moment of every day.
Then I watched as her scintillating aura was splintered into a thousand winter evenings
The sun in her eyes replaced with dew
The well of laughter dried up in a matter of days
And no longer were there any joyful words to mix themselves together –
They all found their way onto pages of notebooks in the dead of the night
I saw her like that, too. I knew her that way.
I understood the pain, and the darkness, and the heartbreak she discovered beneath everything she once adored.
Why couldn’t you let her be?
