Zuid-Afrika

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I left my heart in Africa
It tiptoes through the trees
Tossing in the ocean’s waves
And dancing in the breeze

I left my heart in Africa
Beneath the rolling hills
Echoing in valleys deep
And ringing in birds’ trills

I left my heart in Africa
Beside the pleading child
Hanging in the market stalls
And clinging to the wild

I left my heart in Africa
To freely run amok
Weaving through the wildebeest
And grazing with the buck

I left my heart in Africa
Lost deep within his eyes
Clinging to his warm embrace
And plagued with breaking sighs

PS
Yes, this post is from January, when I returned from South Africa. I have been
a) suffering from chronic writers’ block lately and
b) been thinking about SA quite a bit lately,
so I thought it would be appropriate. If you want to know all the details, look at my Behind the Poems page
